Renegade part II

Okay, back with the last few items from my shopping spree at Renegade Chicago. See the first part here.

I bought four of these tree magnets from iamhome.etsy.com,

and now, gah!!! I picked up tons of business cards, but I still have two more products that I bought, but can’t figure out who the sellers were. If you know who sold these items please leave a comment and let me know.

These hilarious Double Rainbow pencils, and lastly,

I bought a bunch of these mini projector slide books. So tiny, so cute, so inexpensive at only $1 each=so irresistible to buying a ton.

Okay, so that raps up Renegade for this year. Fun times.

Day Seventeen - Little Book

8.25.10 page spread, originally uploaded by robayre.

Today I had to bring some disaster relief to my drawing table. Papers were starting to pile high. Tools were lost between the layers. I couldn’t work on finishing up my next yoyo pouch because my sewing machine would not even fit on the table. Instead I tidied up some and did another little book page spread.

Alyn Carlson has announced on her blog that she is doing a promotion to try and grow her readership. To thank those who brought new fans to her site, she will send a small piece of original artwork. It wasn’t hard for me to get a small handful of friends to visit and subscribe to her blog. Her work speaks for itself.

Two packages going out today. 10 new friends for my blog., originally uploaded by Alyn Carlson.

The other day Alyn’s artwork arrived (pictured immediately above). I love her work so much and was giddy when my little package arrived. I think I am going to mount and frame it. It’s so lovely. I’ve swooned about her here before, but let me do it again. She’s a mixed media artist, graphic designer, actor AND chicken rancher. She makes the most unbelievably beautiful paper art hats and one day I hope to be the owner of one. You can visit her blog here, her flickr here and her etsy shop here.

If you like her work, you can still participate and send friends to the Colorgirl blog and receive your own original piece. Just read here.

Beauty Overload

This blog isn’t called Inspiration Junkie for nothin’. I can’t get enough of the pretty things people make and capture.

Above is the most recent page from my “Favorites” collection from other users on Flickr.

I also like to collect pretty images on weheartit, here.

and tumblr, here.

Do you keep online collections of inspiring images?

Big things in little packages

I recently received an eagerly anticipated package in the mail.

For years I have been coveting items from thelittlereddoor’s etsy shop. I feel like every treasury I made had one of their little houses in it. Then, Thelittleredoor sent out a customer notification that they were near one thousand sales and to celebrate that they’d be offering some extra goodies to whomever purchases the thousandth item. I decided to be that person.

The houses arrived and they are so beautiful. The extra goodies included extra little homes, a bag, AND two beautiful hand-thrown bowls. I love my little houses, they are just as I had hoped. Originally I planned on just setting them out on display, but I read in their shop that they would also work for terrariums. What a great idea!

Check out thelittlereddoor on Etsy.

‘Roid Week 2010 is over, but that doesn’t mean the beauty is gone. Please check out the many, many pages of participating pictures over at Flickr.  I made the above collection using FDs flickr tools with pictures from the group.

spreading inspiration

Hello! Just thought I’d drop in to share a little inspiration.

Here are a few new-to-me inspo blogs. I’m not sure where I  found them all, but hey, let’s face it, they probably all came through Mim some way or another. She seems to be on the pulse of all awesomeosity that is the world wide interblogosphere.

Run With Scissors, Art Equals Happy, Art & Musings, liisforlovely, and this flickr group for all the people taking the Tell Your Story online class through Red Velvet Art.

Here is a repeating grass pattern I’ve been working on while at work. I made it using this same pattern making technique roughly, only I did it all on the computer in photoshop. Layer by layer, believe it or not.  I’m thinking of repeating the pattern a few times and having it printed at spoonflower. If you are into patterns, its worth a trip over to spoonflower just to peruse the other patterns customers have submitted and had printed. So inspiring!

It’s spring time and that means garden time. Here is my container dirt garden. Every day I water my dirt. Hopefully someday soon I might actually have some plants. That would be nice. Did you hear that gardening guru Gayla Trail has a new book out? I need to get this.

And last but not least . . . my nephew is smiling so much now. It’s not the greatest picture (ancient camera phone) but the cute still translates.

Woodlandbelle

Have you seen the shop Woodlandbelle?  I have a crush. I want one of each.

Be still my inspired heart

Please, please, please if you have a few minutes, stop by and read through Aprile Elcich’s finished digital thesis book.

In a perfect world, all design would feel like this to me. After viewing the book I had to declare that she is my new design idol. I love all the incorporated collages and the handwritten text.

I’ve worked as a professional “graphic designer” since I was 16 and I’m 32 now, and yet her work just blows my mind. Looking at Aprile’s book I realize she has done what I could only dream of doing professionally, bridging design and art. Can you imagine if you received a book like that in the mail? I’d keep it under my pillow, and I’m sure it would bring lovely dreams each night.

Check out the rest of her blog at You Are What You Love. Aprile is also the master-mind behind the blog Not Paper, where she interviews other collage artists. So much inspiration.

Cool stuff and thanks

I’ve received so many things lately and I wanted to post a long overdue public thanks and share some of these wicked cool items.

I was sent a copy of The Happy Book by Meg Leder and Rachel Kempster. I’m all about Happy so I was glad to receive it. Imagine if the Listography Journal and Wreck this Journal had a teenage daughter. I think it might be The Happy Book. It’s one of those books that encourages you to carry it around and fill it up and the more you use it the less it will look like what it did when you brought it home. The Happy Book is filled with almost 200 pages of prompts for you to fill up, paste-in, list and draw all the happy and positive things in life. One of the rewarding things about this book, and others similar to it, is that you can pull it out later when you might be feeling down in the dumps and it will hopefully fill you with joy again. The manifesto of the book is “Thinking about what makes you happy, makes you happy. Writing about what makes you happy, makes you happy. Reading about what makes you happy, makes you happy.” I had an idea when I was first reading the introduction that I’d like to keep the book in a somewhat public place (car, coffee table or carry it with me in my bag) and encourage my friends, family and acquaintances to also fill out pages in my book. That way when I opened it up it wasn’t just my happy thoughts, images and experiences, but other’s as well, and I would be able to draw fresh inspiration by other’s happy things.

It has been years now and I am still so grateful that Rosa Murillo saw my website and sent me an email introducing herself. We have become friends and I treasure that. She calls me, I don’t answer (hehehe), but we’ve skyped a couple times and I am always thrilled to see a new blog post on her site. She is such a creative inspiration to me (although she’d probably cringe at my liberal and frequent use of that “i” word). She sent me a wonderful package before Christmas and it contained the ring above. I don’t see anymore in her shop right now, but she’s made a bunch here. I commented on one and low and behold she sent it to me. I love it! Of all jewelry I love rings the most. But not just any ring. Believe it or not, I’d put my nose up to a tiffany diamond ring, but I can’t say no to a piece of artwork adorned on my fingers. Thank you again for the lovely ring, Rosa! I’m compiling a package for you and hope to send it soon, but really, what is soon? You know me, and that might not be until summer, wah wah wah.

This ring came from my new penpal (through the penpal party) Angie of PangeaStore. I have a special place in my heart for lockets. It probably stems from watching the movie Annie too many times as a child. At any rate I admired the rings from Angie’s Etsy shop that have eensie teensie little lockets on them. When her next letter arrived it had one in it! oh my goodness. It’s a ring, it has a locket and it’s miniature! I know, I know, I almost fainted. I’ve been thinking about what I need to put inside of it. I was going to just print out tiny pictures, but then this week I saw this post on the Black Apple about lockets with tiny drawings in them.

And finally this week I stopped by the P.O. Box and was delighted to find this scarf from Trisha at Made During Sleepytime. I had entered her giveaway for this super cozy and stylish scarf and WON IT!  I wore it all today and love it so much that I think I will need to follow her tutorial and make myself a couple more. Honestly though, Trish, you should sell these. I’d probably save myself the aggravation of sewing it and just buy more from you :) Love it!

Spin and Knit

Bri of TheCraftBegins recently posted and shared this scarf that she made from my handspun yarn she purchased.

I wish I had a picture of the original fiber, unspun, but on the left you can see I have a picture of the single ply, the double ply, on the knitty knoddy and in skein form. Here is her post!

I am just thrilled to see such a beautiful finished product, that in a way I had a hand in as well. She did such beautiful work, AND she created the pattern for it as well! She has several other beautiful and equally warm and cozy knits in her Etsy shop.
