Day 13 – Snail Courtship

While shuffling through paper today, I spied these snails in love and was reminded of this mail art piece I did a year or two ago. I really always liked that one and so today I made a similar piece.

The piece is in my etsy shop, available now for $15. Did I mention how these low-low-low prices (said in a car salesman’s voice) will only be offered throughout this month? I wanted to make the pieces daily and offer them at a VERY affordable rate for those who might be looking to buy original artwork to hang on their walls.

Did I also mention that my dear friend Rosa, is also participating in this august daily artwork challenge? She is also listing prints of her pieces in her etsy shop.

day 12 – Get To It!

Or as I like to say “Get To Eeeeet!”

If you’re anything like me you could use any extra push you can get…including this lovely reminder to GET TO IT!

There are lots and lots of layers on this piece. Mulitiple layers of acrylic (for the crackle background effect) and then layers of collage paper. I also used my favorite, chalkboard paint, on this piece. The message has been fixed, so no worry about it smudging away.

Own original artwork, this piece is available in my etsy shop.

day 11 geometric

I’m starting to get concerned messages and phone calls… “you haven’t posted your new piece for the day”. We made plans to go see District 9 tonight. After work I had just enough time to create today’s piece and list it to my shop.

Now I’m back and only just a bit more disturbed from the film. It was good, but, well, no spoilers here. You have to see it for yourself.

Today’s piece was really fun to create. I just jumped in. It wasn’t complete until it had a run under the sewing machine. Some days you just have to play.

Speaking of play…I have a bit of exciting news. I was approached to write articles for Hello Craft regarding Daily Artwork, and today my first piece is up. Please go check it out.

Sweet dreams everyone. I know I will need them after the movie tonight :O

Day 10 – Adventure

Today can be an adventure! In fact, everyday can be an adventure.  It’s what you make of it!

I’ve completed week two of my month long challenge of creating a new piece daily and listing it to my Etsy shop.

I did today’s piece early because we have some adventures already planned for this afternoon. Man, it was tough to work early though, my mind was not digging it. I sat at my drawing table, shuffling and reshuffling through all my paper stashes grasping desperately for some inspiration. Finally, I just had to leap blindly and the color yellow was really calling me today, so I just put one foot in front of the other and this is the piece that resulted.

I have to say I’m quite satisfied.

Have a great weekend everyone, and don’t forget to fit in some adventures!

day 9 – ecosphere

Today’s piece should be filed under Awesomosity!

Earlier today I saw this image in my flickr favorites and I instantly wanted to carve a stamp I could use repeatedly in one piece. I also had a lunch date with printer extraordinaire, pejnolan, so printing was a necessity.

I spied my ecosphere and got the idea to do a piece based on that.

Above you can see the progression of the stamp, from the blank block, to the original sketch, line drawing on the block and then the actual cut out stamp.

I love, love, love this piece and am so inspired to do more using handcarved stamps.

day 8 quarter circle

I finished today’s piece very late, so the sun was already down and any picture this late is gonna look bad. I’ll take better pictures when I finish and complete tomorrow’s piece. This piece took a bit more time. It is inspired by my circle series pieces. There are a few of those pieces still available in my etsy shop as well. I even incorporated my own handspun yarn into this piece.

I stayed home today. I basically stayed in bed, in pajamas and glasses all day long. Thank you everyone who sent me well wishes.

It’s funny how on regular days off, the day can slip by so quickly, but on sick days when you are confined to bed and feeling miserable the day can linger on and on. I am glad I took the day off. It’s one thing I’ve realized within the last 5 years; If I just bite the bullet and take a sick day I will get better almost immediately. If I try to be proud and strong and go to work, I will have one of those horrible colds/flus that linger for weeks. So, I took off the day and I am feeling much better already.

day 7 – straw hat

Today’s piece is a study in blue and brown. Available in my shop.

I’m feeling a bit blue myself today. Not sad, just under the weather. I was still able to complete today’s piece, but I think I will take a nap next.

First, a couple quick links:

I found this wonderful site today. I guess it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, for so long without knowing it. It’s called Gives Me Hope. It’s a site filled with short entries that users have submitted. Each item is something that has given the writer hope. Beware, if you are an emotional person, it will make you cry. While I was reading, I kept gasping (something a friend has nicknamed “icewater” because it sounds like someone just dumped icewater down my back). Matt would ask me what it said and I wouldn’t be able to read it without my voice cracking and my eyes tearing.

The next thing is something I discovered from a flickr/twitter contact. I noticed the other day that Brenna was posting daily creations as well, only, she is participating in a larger project NAARMAMO apparently it is National Art Making Month. Huh, who knew? Must just be in my veins.

Day 6 – Too Serious

Today’s piece is based on a very serious subject.

Laughing.

My mom and I were talking yesterday about how much fun we have when our family gets together for game nights. It’s only after those nights where I realize I don’t REALLY laugh enough. A hoho here, a chuckle there on a daily basis, but belly laughing and sore cheeks are a rare commodity. After laughing so hard I think my heart could just stop, I realize I am way too serious.

I think I need to take more of a conscious effort to relax, ease up and just laugh. That is something I think we could all benefit from doing. This piece is a simple reminder to do just that.

The piece is available in my Etsy shop. $10 and that, my friends, is no laughing matter.

Julie and Julia and more on Daily Projects

Today we went to go see Julie and Julia. I was so inspired that I had to keep writing down thoughts and ideas throughout the movie. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Going into this movie I didn’t know how much I would enjoy it. It’s no secret that I am not a cooker or baker. I think it was probably as a kid watching Julia Child where I first realized I had an aversion to watching cooking shows. When I’m hungry the last thing I want to do is slave away in the kitchen for an hour. BUT, I can safely say that in the last year I’ve improved by leaps and bounds. This might partially be due to the fact that I now live with someone else and cooking for more than oneself seems to be more satisfying. Ocassionally, I find that when I am cooking something I get as excited about it as I do when creating a new piece of artwork. I even own my own apron now, wooo! I don’t think I’ve remembered to use it yet, but I own one, lol.

I think Julie and Julia was the first movie I saw about blogging, so that was fun. I also enjoyed immensely that the Julie character was also self-driven by her own imposed daily project. I loved that, as I am in the midst of a month long art challenge. Still the idea of having to cook a real meal Every.Single.Day. is just exhausting to think about. But, I know that everyone has their own passions and interests, and that is what makes this world a wonderful and exciting place to live in. I just wish Matt had that passion for cooking because I DO share Julia’s passion for eating.

Last week I made my very own fresh salsa, inspired by the delicious homemade salsa I had at Kelly’s the week before. Since I am not a kitchen person I really don’t own lots of kitchen utensils/appliances and culinary neccessities. All the chopping of tomoatoes, onions, cilantro, and peppers was done with, um, I’m embarrassed to admit, a steak knife. Fortunately, my mother gave me a garlic press years ago and that was helpful.

After last week’s adventure in salsa there was a scene in this movie that made me laugh where Julia is perfecting her onion chopping skills. Her first attempt was much like my own way of chopping, meaning, very time consuming. I love vegetables, but I just loathe chopping and preparing them in general. Maybe if I learned how to do it correctly it wouldn’t be such a chore.

Lastly, speaking of daily projects and cooking, I do recall a friend telling me about how she was going to start blogging as she tried to cook more. I’m waiting, eagerly in anticipation. You know who you are.

day 5 – The Argosy

Today’s piece is nautical themed and in the shop! Week one is under my belt.

Today I want to share with you some cool links.

This is a new to me blog called wildflowers:pretty. It came to me via Bri’s blog. Anna Allen’s blog is not only beautiful to look at, but she loves a lot of historical things and seems to share my passion for living a slower paced life. She also has a flickr here.

I found this clothing site today, Boden, via inspire co, and have fallen in love with this skirt. However, I have not fallen in love with it’s cost, so I might just try and replicate something similarly styled.

These “feel good cards” make me smile, via the serendipity factory.

Oh, and have you seen these adorable bumper stickers for your shoes, via We Love You So?

Have a inspiration filled weekend everyone!
