Underground Art School Magazine Issue 3

Underground Art School Magazine Issue 3, originally uploaded by rachealanilyse.

The third issue of Underground Art School is out now and I’m featured within its pages. This issue is sketchbook themed and I was approached by Racheal Anilyse to contribute.

It should be a good issue, judging from the contributors as well as previewing it online. You can buy and preview it here.

I’m a big believer in sketchbooks. When I was first at junior college all the art teachers there required their students to keep sketchbooks and turn them in every couple weeks. It really got me in the pattern of carrying one everywhere I went. Funny enough, none of my profs. at University required them. I am still so grateful for those initial teachers, even though I would frequently be filling pages madly the night before the book was due and cursing that it was part of my grade.

More than sketches, I use it to jot down my constant flow of inspiration and ideas. There have been times when I’ve slept with my sketchbook regularly in the bed next to me, so that if the inspiration broke during the middle of the night I wouldn’t have to reach far.

I subscribe to the power of keeping a regular sketchbook, do it and you will not be disappointed. Not only will you have a record of your work to reflect on, but it help prompt more and more work. Use it regularly and you will be surprised at how quickly the inspiration flows. There’s no need to feel intimidated by it’s blank pages, there just sketchbook pages for your eyes only, not final pieces of work. Fill the pages with scribbles, drawings, lists, magazine images that catch your imagination, the options are endless.

Hi, I'm Robyn and I was Hatched from a Kinder Surprise Egg. Graphic Designer by day, Maker of things by night. I have worked as a graphic artist professionally since I was 16 years old. Went on to get my Bachelors of Art from NIU. I like to share my Artwork online at flickr.com/photos/robayre and on my own personal website http://www.robayre.com. I also have an online shop http://www.robayre.etsy.com where you can find more of my "crafty" sorts of things, as well as a random piece of artwork here and there. Oh, and I'm also an occasional contributor to Artomat (artomat.org).
