Birthday (cont.d)

I wanted to share some of the lovely gifts I got for my birthday.

Please pardon the nasty backdrop. These flowers were from my dear friend Jenny, a bouquet for my birthday and then the little flower in the lefthand corner was from sunday at her house. In one week I have seen her more times than I have seen her in the last few years combined. It was great. She is so inspiring, and like I have said a bajillion times “when I grow up I want to be like Jenny”. I just feel like she always looks like she is so comfortable in her own skin and thus has a great confidence, she is also so wise. I love how she has interests that are so vast, she would never be able to be pigeonholed into any “type” of person.

Tuesday night one of my favorite bands, Hem, was playing at Martyrs in chicago where Jenny works so she got me in and it was a beautiful show. Afterwards we spoke with Sally Ellyson, I got my ticket signed by her, and bought this shirt, which apparently won a design contest.

For my birthday I got some wonderful gifts. My friend Erin knows me too well and got me this art tile that is just so me. Then Al and Elinor gave me this kite that Al made and a set of envelopes that I am sure Elinor made. These presents all mean so much to me, being art and handmade. All presents should be required to be handmade, don’t you think?

I also got lots of other great presents, including something I am building now which I hope to share more of, on here later. The presents were wonderful, but having so many people around meant the world to me. Thanks again everyone for making my birthday so special, I feel loved.

Cornmaze and Feast

I had a GREAT weekend and wanted to thank everyone who made it so special for me. My birthday was relaxed yet productive. I was worried about the corn maze since it rained quite a bit earlier in the day but it actually cleared up and aside from a few slippery sections we had a blast with a party of eleven. Turns out the best part of the whole maze was the constant running corn related jokes that went on. With my sister and boyfriend teaming up to guide us we got through it in a prompt manner just in time to go see the Project Greenlight movie Feast. It was pretty funny and interesting to recall certain parts from watching the tv show. Feast was only playing twice here, once on Friday night and once on Saturday and our group more than doubled the crowd that was in there. I wonder if the show will ever continue.

I also got so many wonderful presents from friends and family and will post more about those in the coming days.

Thanks, everyone, I had a wonderful birthday and birthday weekend!

September 22, 2006

Okay, I was going to include this all in one post but then  I saw that it was post 21. Today is my birthday and it is the 22nd, so here post 22.

I took the day off work and planned to be super productive but I just realized, I have no way of getting around the city since my car is on the fritz.

Look at these adorable soap dispenser ghosties from Target. It has gotten really cold this week and I am so excited that tomorrow is the first day of fall. I have invited a group to go to the corn maze and it should be lots of fun. Also, I picked up the latest Martha Stewart Living and it was packed full of all sorts of great fall and halloween themed recipes, decorations and projects, God I love this time of year.

Here are few links that I wanted to share with you.

Erica sent this link to me in an email, when you click the mouse the color changes, so have at it, Jackson Pollock!

With the cool weather here are some patterns you might need to keep you toasty.

My sister and I went to the Renegade Craft Fair last weekend and my favorite booth by far belonged to Faryn Davis. Look at this piece and tell me it does not scream ROBYN! I bought two pieces, a pendant and a ring. Also I just love resin and although Micheal Bennett once lent me a book on resin I still haven’t worked with it, but seeing Faryns work has really inspired me to get on it.

I love this! Come on, a site devoted to jumping on hotel beds, I love it.

And then this, because riding a hotair balloon is on my “things to do before I die” list.

Have a great day and wonderful weekend everyone!

miniature painting

Here is a painting I made to send for my marvelous mail 6.0 package. It needed to be 3 colors and I used brown, black and white. I made it in the same format as my artomat pieces and I rather like it.

hotair balloon

I just saw this YouTube hotair balloon video on That’s Hot. I wanted to share it since riding in a balloon is one the things I want to do before I die.

September 11

I just got an email from one of the few that can be called my bestest friends in the world, Erin, and this was a small portion of what she said so beautifully:

“So today is Sept. 11 - five years ago we sat in a room together and watched as the buildings crashed down. So much has changed in that time, but so much has gone back to the same as it always was.”

My memories of September 11th will always be entwined with what happened that day and the reaction of those I was surrounded by. Those same people impacted my life so greatly and I also credit them with helping form who I have become as a person. It is a day of remembrance and I guess I am just reflecting now, not only about the events of that day, but those people that I sat by everyday for years and still love to this day.

Great T-Shirt

I’ve already lost where I found this link but I still had to share this excellent t-shirt. It makes me think of High Fidelity “I’s what you like, not what you’re like that makes you cool.” If I had this shirt it would read:

Interests

Black and white stripes, Bubble drinks, Alaska, painting, thai iced tea, front porch swings, Chicago, laughing, crying, London, unnatural hair colors, road trips, printmaking, Photography, Scarves, Ceramics, ghosts, metalwork, drawing, Peter Pan, making things, rabbits, snow, writing down song lyrics on scrap papers, Polaroids, sleeping in, mailart, Postcrossing, miniatures, spinning, collagework, bookmaking, movies, postcrossing, artomat, boatneck t-shirts, guerilla art, hammacks, hoodies, ipod, juneau, kinder surprise eggs, lawn and prairie grass, mixtapes, photobooths, scarves, sleeping, slurpees and icees, water, getting mail

unfortunately, it doesn’t all fit :(

craft show

Okay, so the craft show was more of a success than I had imagined. I did a lot better than last year although I had much less stock. It is a very small show (less than 20 vendors) and I shared a booth with 2 other people.

Right now I feel that same sweet relief that I would experience after finishing up a huge research project or final exam while in school. I am excited that now I can start working on some pointless fun projects for my own enjoyment.

Labor Day

I’m drenched. It’s the first time I left the apartment today - to go out and play in the rain. Splashing barefoot in the puddles. It was the most exciting thing that happened all weekend.

Mix Tapes

This is so fun, make your own tape.
