Friday Productivity

I almost forgot about this ring entirely.

It’s a lost cast wax ring I made for my sister many, many years ago. The story behind it is that we were at an outdoor flea market browsing tables when we came to one with jewelry. I’m not sure exactly how it went, since it was so long ago, so we’ll just pretend this is the truth if it’s not ;) Anyway, it was an overcast and blustery day, don don don…. just kidding. My sister picked up a ring from a vendors table and exclaimed “It’s a ring with a slug on it!” We laughed at the ridiculousness of it, until we realized that the rest of the rings on the table were butterfly rings and this particular ring had once been a butterfly as well, but since had it’s wings ripped off of it. Too bad, we liked it better thinking it was just a slug. She wanted to get it, because it was so funny, that one might own a ring with a slug on it. Instead I made her this ring from silver. It’s not a very functional ring because those little antennae get snagged on everything. Fun fact: I just looked up slugs and found out that those antennae are actually called optical tentacles, and they actually see from them. I thought that was just pretend, when they would have eyes on them in cartoons, like Gary the snail from Sponge Bob.

Today I found this great site called New Math, via swallowfield. It has all sorts of equations and I’m sure my sister the math expert would enjoy it.

Today’s equation so far goes like this:

unproductive < Robyn’s day off + Matt calling in sick from work

It’s 3:30 and there is still promise for something to happen. I can’t say I’ve been entirely unproductive. I made a bunch of recycled paper scratch pads (50+) and put together a bunch of packs that go in each etsy purchase that gets mailed out. I also finished up a yarn I’ve been working on and washed it. Maybe I’ll get out and do some geocaching?

Oh yeah, and following Bishop through the house today I came up with this haiku:

Bishop’s Tail

following him
everywhere he goes
an exclamation point with flair

Excuse my liberal use of poetic license :)

Hi, I'm Robyn and I was Hatched from a Kinder Surprise Egg. Graphic Designer by day, Maker of things by night. I have worked as a graphic artist professionally since I was 16 years old. Went on to get my Bachelors of Art from NIU. I like to share my Artwork online at flickr.com/photos/robayre and on my own personal website http://www.robayre.com. I also have an online shop http://www.robayre.etsy.com where you can find more of my "crafty" sorts of things, as well as a random piece of artwork here and there. Oh, and I'm also an occasional contributor to Artomat (artomat.org).

  1. Maybe we can make it a productive Saturday instead? A&E are gone to Chicago this weekend and I have the studio all to myself. mah-ha-Ha-HA! We still have some PMC left. Maybe you could make another slug ring?

  2. I think your equation is wrong. I think it should say:

    unproductive NE Robyn’s day off

Because clearly those two things are NE, i.e. Not Equal. From your list, you were very productive today! :)

  3. I’m totally unproductive, so I’m jealous that you’re getting stuff done. Let me tell you how much I love the slug ring. One of my favorite teachers EVER taught my 8th grade bio class and it always bothered him that everyone always said “save the whales!” but there were never any bumper stickers trying to save slugs. So…sort of lost the point there, but slugs are awesome anyway.
