Day 11 - Favorite Rings

Day 11 - Favorite Rings

Ever since I posted the picture of my favorite necklaces, I’ve wanted to do one with my favorite rings. I just realized after looking at the necklaces that I could do an update because I have bought so many awesome necklaces since I took that original picture years ago.

I’m not into your “standard” jewelry shop jewelry, meaning gold, platinum or the like, with lots of bling and sparkly diamonds. You are more likely to find me wearing a ring from a gumball machine than a ring from Tiffany’s. It’s not a price thing, but an aesthetic thing. To me, those “luxurious” rings looks no different than the junk mass marketed knock offs that you can buy at any department store for $20. They are just so AVERAGE, and they have no personality. What I’m drawn to are unique pieces that have a story behind them, and each one these rings does. You can click on the image to go to the flickr page and if you hover over some of the rings you read about their unique stories.

So, for Thing-a-Day 11, I am sharing this collection of my absolute favorite rings. I probably have another 30 in my ring boxes, but the ones pictured here are the most special to me. Oh, and that reminds me. I’ve been wanting to make a display ring box, like the one Rosa made. Here is her tutorial.

Day 9 - Me in my studio

Day 9 - Me in my studio, originally uploaded by robayre.

Thing-a-Day Day 9 - A while ago I read a suggestion of using a picture of yourself in your work space, as a picture space on your Etsy listings. I thought it was such a brilliant idea. Tonight I had Matt take this polaroid of me. It’s just one little corner of my studio.

This probably won’t be the final or official picture. I think I’d like to take some with natural daylight coming in the room.

Day Five - Quilted Rings

Quick before I get to my thing-a-day, I just wanted to say 2 things. One- Last night I went to the local art league meeting and Natasha from Esther’s Place (a local fiber shop) spoke and demonstrated needle and wet felting. It was really cool to watch her layer on the fibers and I was surprised to see how similar to painting it could be. I was very inspired to explore felting some more. Two- I finally, finally, finally got my replacement check card (after “Lost Wallet Debacle of 2009″) and have decided to celebrate by reactivating my netflix account. If you are looking, you can find me crafting away with eyes peeled to the TV or computer monitor.

Okay, now back to our regular programming. Once again this is cross posted from the Thing-A-Day site, but I encourage you to please visit TAD and check out all the lovely things that other participants are making everyday. There’s lots of inspiration flying around over there.

Riffling through my jewelry the other day I found an old quilted ring I’d made years ago. I remembered how much fun they were to make, so, for today’s thing I worked on making more and decided to offer them in my shop online.

Day four from Thing-a-Day.

Today I did these 4 quick collages, in my sketchbook, which will be used later for painting references.
