Big things in little packages

I recently received an eagerly anticipated package in the mail.

For years I have been coveting items from thelittlereddoor’s etsy shop. I feel like every treasury I made had one of their little houses in it. Then, Thelittleredoor sent out a customer notification that they were near one thousand sales and to celebrate that they’d be offering some extra goodies to whomever purchases the thousandth item. I decided to be that person.

The houses arrived and they are so beautiful. The extra goodies included extra little homes, a bag, AND two beautiful hand-thrown bowls. I love my little houses, they are just as I had hoped. Originally I planned on just setting them out on display, but I read in their shop that they would also work for terrariums. What a great idea!

What does this image make you think of?

Today was my last pottery class :( I will be returning to pick up my pieces and I’m very excited to see how they will turn out. I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped. The first class went so well, and then, as I feared, the next two classes I flopped piece after piece. When the class is only 5 sessions long that can really put a kink in production. BUT, I do have a couple thrown pieces and a bunch of hand constructed pieces that I will share here as soon as I can. Everyone in the class is very excited to take the next class again. Bad news is… it’s not being offered again until next February. Well, it will give me plenty of time to come up with a plan for pieces I want to make.

Did I mention it is National Blog Posting Month and I’m participating? Well, I’m taking the weekends off, so I’m not posting truly every day. Here is the blogroll of all other participants for this month. Check ‘em out if you like.

Centering

Tonight was my first community ed. ceramics class. The teacher, Michelle, said one thing that I want to remember and share here. She said there are three parts to ceramics, the wheel, your body, and the clay. She likened the clay to a rock. It seems like a rock is so hard you could never manipulate it, but if you use the wheel and your body properly the rock will always be the one that gives. You are happening to the clay, not the other way around. I think it is something that can apply to many parts of your life. If you remember that you are the one in control of your obstacles and you use that confidence, everything else will bend to make way.

I forgot to take pictures before the class wrapped up, so I am using the above picture by http://www.flickr.com/photos/macbeck/ through creative commons on flickr.
