lolla weekend 2007

real quick, cool website: walkscore  tells you how far it is walking distance to all sorts of locations from where you live.

My sister and I did a lot of walking this weekend while we spent friday through sunday in chicago. We lived it up this year and stayed at the chicago hilton on michigan ave. Trust me when they told us they strive to make sure customer’s stay a “10”. It was the best hotel stay since we got the King Royal Super-Duper Suite in Montreal. Much better than the “Red Rash Inn” stay a couple weeks ago in St. Louis.

We hit up the regular spots like the Cultural Center to visit the artomat, which was almost empty as usual :( and also the Paper Source to get our paper fix, where, believe it or not, I found and snapped up a copy of The Guerilla Artist Kit. Our cousin was selling at the Gold Coast River North Art Fair. It was this very impressive art fair where hundreds of vendors were all of the highest quality, and we dropped a couple pretty pennies and walked away with some real nice work. We both bought prints from our cousin, Sharon Swing, that we were SO EXCITED about. I also bought a wood block piece by Kass Copeland and some small prints like this one by Igor Menaker. We also spent some time at Millennium Park of course.

But the main reason we were downtown was because of lollapalooza. My favorite act was Regina Spector, she was just so adorable and entertaining and stopped mid song when someone in the crowd was sick and in danger and didn’t resume until she had parted the crowd like the red sea so that the person could get aid.

It was another action packed weekend and although I had asked for monday off to recoup. I think I will go in after all and take next friday off instead. It will give me something to look forward to during the rest of the week.

Hi, I'm Robyn and I was Hatched from a Kinder Surprise Egg. Graphic Designer by day, Maker of things by night. I have worked as a graphic artist professionally since I was 16 years old. Went on to get my Bachelors of Art from NIU. I like to share my Artwork online at flickr.com/photos/robayre and on my own personal website http://www.robayre.com. I also have an online shop http://www.robayre.etsy.com where you can find more of my "crafty" sorts of things, as well as a random piece of artwork here and there. Oh, and I'm also an occasional contributor to Artomat (artomat.org).
